How The 1975 Killed Genre Music

“Music is impacted by the interaction of global forces,”

– David Herbert yes

Rap, grime, hip hop and R&B. And The 1975 eradicated the genres that connected them.

In 2016, The 1975’s world tour coincided with both Brexit campaigning and the U.S Presidential Election. They were playing shows at an extremely heated political time, and they’re an unapologetically political band. This time on the road inspired the songs that have since become anthem’s in their own right. ‘Loving Someone’, ‘Love It If We Made It’ and ‘I Like America and America Likes Me’ are anthems that spread a core message of humanism. The band uses a collection of genres to convey their essential message of peace, love and anti-bigotry.

The common theme that lends itself to the glocalisation of The 1975 rap music is a need to speak out for social issues, including LGBTQ+.
