pitching get grilled

Get Grilled. iCarly meets 18/19 year old girls. A vlog, a series, a podcast – all in one. A fantastical internet experience.

Balancing humour and important conversations, whilst navigating a world of pop culture and media trends – Get Grilled is a lighthearted, fun (at times sentimental) talk show that will come to life on YouTube. BCM students, Lauren and myself look forward to sharing in real conversations about issues affecting young people e.g overuse of social media and body image, but we’re also going to laugh a lot about the less serious stuff. Funny stories, lessons learnt, our love for horror films and pop music are typical topics. Fast-paced comedy vlogs are an avenue we are ready to dive into, inspired by David Dobrik.

We feel it’s important to connect to an audience that we relate to, and provide a platform for open engagement if people want to join the conversation. Get Grilled is proudly an LGBTQI+ safe space and a community that promotes mental wellbeing. We are excited to talk about crucial issues in long-form content inspired by the Joe Rogan Experience and TEDTalks. Get Grilled is relevant to its users because not everywhere on the internet, especially in the digital age, do young women have easy access to real content creators or internet personalities that they can relate to. We want to provide a healthy community that promotes body positivity for young women and people of all backgrounds.

As Journalism and Screen Media students, we intend on using the Innovation Campus resources to help us film our videos and livestream. Our personal computers have editing software that we are comfortable using, as well as applications for script writing, social media, artistic works, etc. Lauren and I both have experience with running successful YouTube channels from high school, and we feel confident to deliver high quality videos based on our prior learning and skills acquired from our previous channels. The majority of our social media engagement with viewers will take place on Instagram and Twitter.
